Hi! I am Lori Seaborg, a mother, a wife, and the founder & writer of this site. We are a homeschooling family with four children, two boys and two girls. We have homeschooled for over a decade after trying various education methods: private, public, and a public/homeschool option. Eventually, we found our way to what works for us and we have really enjoyed our homeschooling journey!
Freely Educate (a.k.a.Freely Homeschool) was named with the idea of freedom, not ‘freebies’, but for years – over a decade! – on this site, I focused primarily on “high quality, free educational finds.” People needed free resources, and since I’m pretty good at research, I was happy to help.
In our own homeschool, we have always homeschooled creatively. Freely. There are enough places to go to find freebies these days; I want to share our family’s experience and thoughts on homeschooling. I think our experiences could help some of you. I’ve left up the old posts as a resource tool, but am now focused on sharing my thoughts on how to give a child a beautiful homeschool education, the one of my dreams for our own children (a dream we made come true).
I want homeschoolers, and open-minded parents, to know:
- you are the best teacher for this child
- you can enjoy the freedom of this journey
- a creative education is a good education
- you have all you need – it is all available to you
We’re all homeschooling to a degree.
How FreelyHomeschool Came to Be
In 2004, Hurricane Ivan directly hit our Gulf Coast area. Our family endured losses during that time, of a job, things, and …peace. A few people helped with food (the power guys who came down from Tennessee handed our watching kids a full bag of Snickers!). The greatest help came in the area of education as someone reached out two hands full of generosity.
As soon as we were back on our feet, as a “pay-it-forward” thing after Hurricane Katrina hit our neighbors to the West in 2005, I started a Yahoo! group called FreeHomeschool. There, people could post 100% free educational products they wanted to give away to anyone who may need just that thing.
That community led me to create a website and here we still are, in 2020!
