Free! Scott Foresman Grammar & Writing Curriculum for Elementary Grades

by grade· elementary· grammar· subjects· writing

Grammar and Writing are daunting subjects for many homeschoolers to teach. Most of us want a guide, an expert, someone to help us. I’m definitely a fan of literature-based homeschooling, but grammar is a necessity of our society and here is where it may be useful to use a curriculum or pull out the worksheets.

(this post was last updated January 2022)

I first posted about the free Scott Foresman grammar & writing curriculum around 2010. It was very popular with many of you before the site was taken down. This caused quite a panic for homeschooling parents who were mid-way through the curriculum.  I searched for other alternatives, but couldn’t find anything exactly like this.  But finally! We found it again!

Thank goodness, as we’ve never found another grammar and writing curriculum as full or helpful for grades 1st through 6th. See what you think:

Scott Foresman Grammar and Writing Curriculum

How to Get the Free Scott Foresman Grammar and Writing Curriculum:

This grammar curriculum was created for elementary grades 1st through 6th, with a separate “handbook” for each grade. Each book is about 157 pages long. The materials are available as Adobe Acrobat .pdf files and may be downloaded, saved or printed.

Grade 1: Pearson Scott Foresman Grammar & Writing Handbook, Grade 1

Grade 2: Pearson Scott Foresman Grammar & Writing Handbook, Grade 2

Grade 3: Pearson Scott Foresman Grammar & Writing Handbook, Grade 3

Grade 4: Pearson Scott Foresman Grammar & Writing Handbook, Grade 4

Grade 5: Pearson Scott Foresman Grammar & Writing Handbook, Grade 5

Grade 6: Pearson Scott Foresman Grammar & Writing Handbook, Grade 6

Here is a link to the Dropbox with all 6 of the Scott Foresman Grammar and writing Handbooks.

NEED A BIT OF ADVICE FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS “BEEN THERE”?

We recently graduated our 4th of 4 (boy, girl, boy, girl). I hope what I’ve learned on our journey will help someone else, so I wrote a couple of articles:

I am using this for my 2nd grader and love it! It did take some time to print, but I print only a section at a time instead of the whole thing at once, so it makes it feel like less time:) And a little time spent printing is worth it to me since it is free!

How do I download to pdf? When I click (right click) save as it comes up as a html doc. These are great and would really help one of my day care kids.

Hi, Julie ~  I didn't right click, but just clicked, and it opened up in Adobe's pdf.  If you need the Adobe program, it's free, here:  http://get.adobe.com/reader/

Here is a link to a Dropbox with all 6 of the Scott Foresman Grammar and writing Handbooks. It’s always nice to have more than one location to find them. It is on Google Dropbox. The link was found on the forums for Welltrainedmind.com Jan 2015. It worked today on 4/13/17.

I’m not sure why it’s not working for you. I was just successful in getting the Dropbox files into my own Dropbox folder (I only tried 1st grade). You can also try this: Right Click, and choose Save As. For me, this doesn’t save it as a pdf file but as an HTML file, but it would be viewable and should also be printable. Let me know if I can help further!

Thank you SOOOO much for this! I was wondering if anyone has a source for the Teacher Guide or at least an answer key for these books? I’ve googled and amazoned ’til my fingers are numb. 🙂 I’m sure I can work out the answers, but it would be a lot faster if they’re written down somewhere — and we all know that a few extra minutes grading is sometimes more than us homeschoolers can take. Thanks again for the resource!

I haven’t had luck finding a Teachers Guide or Answer Key for free. Here is one for sale on Amazon, for 1st grade: http://amzn.to/2xW2oOq , and here is a Teacher’s Edition for 2nd grade: http://amzn.to/2eVj6cl (affiliate links) . I’ll post an update if I ever find them!

If you decide not to print it out, yes, writing the answers would work very well. You would look at the screen to see what was asked as you check the answers.
