Congratulations to Beth in Missouri! Thank you to everyone who entered!
So, this is what my desk looked like today, and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more.
…unless my coffee was hotter. Our kitchen table is where I often land while one of the kids is doing “sit down work,” like writing. They focus best when I’m nearby to deal with distractions from kittens and a beeping dryer. Today, at my “desk” – the kitchen table – I’m enjoying the brand new ASUS Chromebook Flip C100. I’m using it to pay bills, check into the timeline for our college son’s apartment move-in date, check out free online piano lessons to try out, and, okay, browse Pinterest.
I’m new to the Chromebook family, so I’m seeing how much the Flip C100 can let me do. The answer is: everything I’ve been doing on my big computer. This may not be true of someone who uses a lot of software or plays a lot of games, but for me – virtually everything, from photo editing and storage to bill-paying and blogging, is done ‘in the cloud,’ online.
The ASUS Chromebook Flip C100 is the world’s first 10-inch convertible Chromebook. It’s lightweight, sleek, and small, but with a large keyboard.
Here are the official specs from ASUS:

As a homeschooling mom, here are my two favorite ASUS Chromebook Flip C100 features:
I love the size – the keyboard is nearly a full-size keyboard, so it doesn’t make me crazy to type on it (something that happens to me with teeny keyboards!). Yet, it’s such a small and light notebook, that I can easily pick it up with one hand and cuddle right up with it on the recliner while a child reads to me.
I also love the flipping – it’s handy for many scenarios. As a tablet, our teen gal can read from it; in ‘tent’ mode, our youngest may set it up next to her sketchpad to copy a famous artist’s work; in standard mode, like above, I can type with my hands in perfect position just as my (very strict) typing teacher taught me.
As a college student, here are my son’s two favorite Flip C100 features:
As I played with the Flip C100, I kept thinking how ideal it would be for a kid like our college son. The size, the weight, the portability, are all so perfect for a student. Most colleges have wireless internet throughout the campus, so using the Chrome iOS is not a problem.
Our college kid says he likes the light weight of the little C100. With textbooks, calculator, notepad and pen (apparently kids do still handwrite these days), he has enough weight in his satchel. He appreciates not carrying something else that’s heavy.
But his favorite feature of all is the long battery life. At 9 hours of battery, a college kid can go to every class in his day and complete a night of homework before needing to search for the power cord. Our absent minded professor appreciates this.
Another feature we love: instant start-up. I am not used to having this, so I’m surprised and excited every time I open the Flip! It just lights right up, ready to be used.
Bottom Line: After using this notebook for most of July, I’m so excited to introduce it to you. I highly recommend the Flip C100 for college students, homeschooling moms, and homeschool students. With the quick start-up and the 9 hours of battery life, precious time is not wasted. And with the light weight and small size, it’s convenient to take from the college classroom to the living room recliner.
