It’s such a good time to teach kids about government and civics – they’ll be the next generation of politicians! In my quest to teach our children about government, we have kept up with local county ordinances, paid attention to our small town mayoral race, learned more about our local representative, and discovered iCivics…
Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, after 25 years in the U.S. Supreme Court, created a website iCivics, where middle school students may understand U.S. civics better. For this video game generation, the site offers free interactive games on many civics topics. For the teacher, there are plenty of free civics lesson plans available.
Places to Start:
- Go directly to the free lesson plans and games for learning civics
- Become a local county official and try to keep your citizens safe & happy!
- Teachers Guide: this page is full of information for teachers
- Learn More about iCivics.
p.s. I’d love to do this for other countries! If you know of an informative site, please share with us in the comments below. – Lori
