Art can be many things, from designing a t-shirt to producing a video, from decorating a cake to digitally coloring an animation. The Art Institutes schools, such as the New England Institute of Art and the Art Institute of Portland as well as others across America, provide students with hands-on training in the real world and in the classroom. They focus on training artists for careers outside of school, and they encourage community-based projects.
The Art Institutes recently worked with the recently held Bonnaroo 2011 Festival. For the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, students from several Art Institutes schools were challenged "To Make the 10th Annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival the Best Ever." They created 15 student projects for the festival competition, in the four areas of specialty at the Art Institutes: design, media arts, fashion and culinary.
Some students designed the festival poster and festival t-shirt while others created eco-friendly fashion collections which were showcased in the Bonnaroo Fashion Show. Students from Art Institutes in California and Tennessee created videos and animations, while others worked on culinary arts as they planned and prepared meals for festival artists and crew.
This was an exciting opportunity for the students who attended Bonnaroo 2011, especially for the 14 students who won an all-expense paid trip to the festival through an Art Institutes competion.
