My husband was recently so caught up in today's free find that he forgot he was just there to help our 10yo figure something out. You'll like this one, but don't forget to let the kids have a go at it, too!
Arcademic Skill Builders are "online educational video games that offer a powerful approach to learning basic math, language arts, vocabulary, and thinking skills," according to the site publishers.
Through video games and competition, students will practice concepts such as spelling and multiplication, among others. I played in a jet ski addition game against the "computer" as well as a racing car multiplication game. Other games include spelling, vowel and verb games, among others, for language arts and capitals and country games for geography.
The site holds safety above all: your child may create a username if as long as its a name the program considers safe, or use the name provided, but even if he or she decides to compete with others across the internet, he may not chat with the other users.
Teacher Testimonials from the Arcademic Skill Builders site:
"Many of the students play video games all the time at home. This was a way to let them enjoy their playing time, but to practice a skill at the same time."
– Mrs. Smeltz in Lititz, PA.
"The math activities on your site have improved the students performance grades in classroom timed tests and have boosted the students confidence in their math abilities."
– Mr. White in New Baltimore, MI.
